What is Horror Fiction?
Horror fiction, horror literature and also horror fantasy are genres of literature, which are intended to, or have the capacity to frighten, scare, or startle their readers or viewers by inducing feelings of horror and terror.
It's not the same for everyone
Discuss the following statements:
- What one person finds scary may not be scary for someone else.
- How you feel about a specific subject can be different from one person to another.
- The suspense is often more scary than the actual thing.
- A shock in a story doesn't mean the book belongs in the horror category
- Feelings of horror and terror are worse than just being scared or frightened
Do true "horror" stories belong in children's fiction?
It could be argued that scary stories for primary students do not really belong in the category of horror fiction. Why?
