Today we are going to read an information book that has been short listed for the Eve Pownall Award for Information Books.
The winner is to be announced during Book Week. |
Before Reading
Display the cover to the students and have them predict what the text will be about and what type of text it is (informative/narrative). Flick through the text to reveal pages. Does this change their prediction? Lead a discussion of who do they think the intended audience is, and why?
Write the words ‘left and right’ on the board and have students brainstorm in groups everything they can associate with left and right.
