Lesson 2

Punished!
By David Lubar

Recall previous chapters

Recall what we read last week by putting the following events in order:
  • The old man said that Logan should be punished.
  • Logan was sent to the principal.
  • Benedict and Logan decide to go to the library.
  • Benedict plays a game of tag in the library.
  • People start groaning when Logan speaks.
  • Logan decided that he needed to go back to the library to see the old man.

Reading chapters 4 and 5

As you are reading, you may need to write up special words from the book on the board as you go. This will help the students see the words that you are reading and make connections with the humour. This step will become obvious as you are reading the next chapters.
PUN SHEET
Give out the puns sheet. Children can tick or high light them as they hear them when the teacher is reading. Afterwards write in what it was really meant to be.

After Reading

  • Why did Logan think that the old man could help him?

  • What did the old man tell Logan that he needed to do for step 1?

What is an oxymoron?

The following video will further explain what these words are.

Prediction

Do you think Logan will find the seventh oxymoron?
What will happen if he does find it?
What will happen if he doesn't?
