Term 4 Focus
So what does this mean?
When characters in a narritive (a story) speak, what they actually say is called direct speech. Direct speech is usually recorded in speech marks or inverted commas (Freddie said, "Hello."). Full stops, question marks and exclamation marks go inside the speech marks. In comic strips direct speech is mostly contatined in speech bubbles so inverted commas are not needed.
Reporting what someone else has said is called indirect speech (I told him Freddoe said hello.).
